The Labyrinth Exhibit
Imagine a group of people totally focused, totally captivated by what they are doing.
They stand on tiptoes, they lean over, they move forward and step back. Perhaps they gasp or exclaim. They move from left to right at their own rhythm, each in his or her own space. This isn’t a form of Tai Chi or some strange new exercise. It is a group of people experiencing the Labyrinth Exhibit.
The traveling exhibit of The Labyrinth Society is a wonderful tool for reaching a community, whether it is used for educational purposes, a labyrinth celebration or dedication, or as a focal point during a fundraising campaign. This monumental exhibit is available for you to use in your community.
The exhibit was created by two artists, Marilyn Larson and Sandra Wasko-Flood, for The Labyrinth Society as part of the “Labyrinths for Peace” event held in Washington, D.C. in April of 2000. The exhibit hung in the Cannon Rotunda in the House of Representatives while numerous labyrinths dotted the lawn of the Capitol grounds.
After leaving the House of Representatives, the exhibit traveled to the Charles Sumner School Museum, also in Washington. There it was part of a larger exhibit, "Common Ground: Labyrinth Designs, Past and Present," that featured the works of several artists.
Since then, the exhibit has been shown in Oklahoma, Idaho, New Mexico, California, Texas and Illinois. It is the goal of TLS to have this exhibit hang in all 50 states.
The exhibit consists of 22 panels with 153 photos, depicting 120 different labyrinths, 40 illustrations and an original work of art. Not only is it a feast for the eyes, the narrative and photo captions leave viewers with a grasp of the many types of labyrinths, their history and how they complement today’s busy lifestyle.
You may rent the exhibit for use in your community for $500 which includes shipping of the exhibit to your location. To request a date, contact our Exhibit Representative who can answer all of your questions and will schedule the shipping. Be sure to visit our gallery.
