Stephen Shibley, retired landscape architect, is a Land Artist specializing in labyrinth design and construction. Shibley has been building labyrinths in both public and private spaces for 15 years. With almost 30 years of professional construction experience as a licensed landscape contractor, Shibley also brings the wealth of experience and industry knowledge necessary to create your unique labyrinth. Fertile Ground works collaboratively with each client to help transform the mundane into the extraordinary.

PERMANENT
Fertile Ground creates beautiful one-of-a-kind permanent labyrinths utilizing an array of construction techniques that uniquely respond to the client’s needs and the site’s opportunities and constraints. Fertile Ground’s expertise from a lifelong career as a landscape professional ensures the process from labyrinth visioning through installation are seamlessly executed with the care and creativity of a master artisan.
TEMPORARY 
Fertile Ground also creates beautiful temporary, or seasonal, mown lawn labyrinths. All that is needed is an even, walkable, and healthy lawn ‘canvas’. Shibley can lay out and mow most custom labyrinth patterns in less than a day. You can choose to maintain your mown labyrinth beyond your celebration or event so that it can be enjoyed throughout the year. Shibley has also created temporary chalk and painted labyrinths at summer festivals.
