Updating the World Wide Labyrinth Locator

Since its launch in May 2004, the active database of labyrinths contained within the World Wide Labyrinth Locator (WWLL) website has grown considerably, from an initial 800 entries, to the point where it now stands at nearly 4200 labyrinths, in some 75 or so countries around the world.

With maturity of the information contained within the database comes a degree of redundancy. While the administrator of the website is diligent with updating information and removing examples no longer in existence, this effort relies on the owners of the labyrinths contained within the WWLL, or visitors to those labyrinths, keeping the information up to date. Likewise, duplication of entries is another problem, with the same labyrinth sometimes entered twice, but under a slightly different name, or by different people.

Within the last year or so, several people have set themselves a mission to check out the labyrinths in their local area and send in a report to the WWLL Administrator to facilitate wholesale updating of those examples—a very commendable action and immensely helpful in keeping the database current. This has demonstrated that the value of the information contained within the WWLL database would considerably benefit from an organised program of revision and updating. To this end, we are instigating a campaign involving the membership of both The Labyrinth Society and Veriditas—the co-sponsors of the website—calling on volunteers to check the details of their "local" labyrinths in the WWLL and report their findings and corrections to enable appropriate updating.

This program is being organised via the Regional Representatives of both organisations, coordinating their efforts through the Regional Reps. Chairpersons, Sherry Biltz (TLS) and Ellen Meuch (Veriditas). If you wish to get involved, please contact
