World Labyrinth Day 2016: All Together Now!

Our Man with The Map, Lars Howlett, who coordinates participation, publicity, documentation, and reportage for World Labyrinth Day, brings us this report on the 8th Annual WLD events that took place around the world on Saturday, May 7th.

WLD 2016 map

Thanks for participating in the World ‪#‎LabyrinthDay‬ and taking our informal survey! We counted over 200 events in 24 countries: Argentina, Australia, Bahamas, Belgium, Brazil, Canada, Croatia, Denmark, England, Ireland, Israel, Italy, Finland, Germany, Greece, Lithuania, Netherlands, Norway, New Zealand, Portugal, Russia, South Africa, Spain, and the U.S. (including 46 states! We're missing only Alaska, Alabama, Idaho, and North Dakota— anyone know someone who walked there?)

Some fun stories I noted from The Labyrinth Society Facebook Global Group include:

  • synchronicity of an art exhibition in New Orleans featuring an illuminated labyrinth opening on WLD
  • TLS Past President John Rhodes walked his labyrinth for the first time since his knee surgery two weeks earlier (congratulations, John!)
  • Sacred Sites Quest was honored with a mayoral proclamation in Houston
  • inaugural walk of the first labyrinth in Congo at Kimpese
  • dedication prayer shared between two sites in Ottawa by videocall before the walks
  • Nokkie Steyn Benade walked in South Africa at 6am, 1pm, and 8pm for her children in different time zones!
  • a sweet response from Russia on the Facebook page:
Lars HowlettLars Howlett: thanks for sharing! happy to see World Labyrinth Day in another country.. . I will add it to the map!
Sergey StrekalovSergey Strekalov Thank you so much! We are not in a another country. We are on the same planet!
The labyrinth community is grateful to Lars, all the volunteers, and the many participants around the world for working together to bring peace in our time, step by step.
