TLS 2020 GATHERING POSTPONED UNTIL 2021--New Dates Announced:

The Labyrinth Society was founded by a group of labyrinth enthusiasts who gathered together at a conference and then could not bear the thought of not making this gathering of like-minded souls a regular event. Every year, for 21 years, Labyrinth Society members and friends, have gathered together to see friends who have become close as family, and to meet new people, learn, and share. It is an event we look forward to every year.

However, this year, because of COVID-19 and the uncertainty surrounding the safety of travel, TLS's Board of Directors decided to postpone this year's Gathering until next year as a responsible and responsive show of our shared love and respect for our members and their families. The 2021 Gathering will be held at the same place as scheduled for this year, The Casa, Franciscan Renewal Center, Scottsdale, Arizona. The theme and keynotes will be the same, and the presenters who made proposals and were accepted this year will be given the opportunity to present. If needed, we may reopen a call for proposals to give others a second chance. The new dates are October 29-31, 2021. We look forward to seeing you at Gathering next year and interacting with you in other ways through the year as we build a stronger, more connected TLS.

ANNUAL MEETING ANNOUNCED

Meanwhile, the TLS Board and current TLS members still need to hold an annual meeting this fall to fulfill bylaw requirements, elect new board members, and do all the things we usually do and more. The Annual Meeting will be a free virtual meeting held on September 25, 2020 at 5:00PM EDT. Anyone who wants to attend will be able to, but you will have to register for it so we can guarantee enough virtual spaces for everyone. More information will be available closer to the date.

NEW EVENTS

TLS's Board of Directors and volunteers will be using the time and energy that would have gone into Gathering to find other ways to reach out to our members and build community internationally. In the coming months there will be new opportunities to participate, volunteer, and network with other members and friends of the organization, including a Virtual Gathering on September 26, 2020. We are looking for new ways to become stronger as an organization and more connected to each other. If you have any ideas, please contact the appropriate board member, committee chair, or coordinator for your question or with your field of interest.

ONLINE AUCTION JUNE 20-JULY 11

The Bidding For Good (BFG) page is up and accepting donation items and you (or your group) can become a sponsor via the BFG page as well. Anyone with a product or service can make a donation, or become a sponsor with a dollar donation. You do not have to be a TLS member to offer a donation and the product or service does not have to be labyrinth related. Simple step-by-step directions make the BFG donation process easy, but if you have problems with any part of the process, please contact Sarah Nash immediately, she is happy to help!

TLS hopes that this online auction will encourage creative community building, provide free advertising and marketing to community members who have products, and also support TLS in meeting its budgetary end-of-year goals.

WLD - WALK AROUND the WORLD 2020 A RESOUNDING SUCCESS!

World Labyrinth 2020: Walk around the World for Peace, Community, and Hope

What an amazing 24 hours! Many thanks to everyone who took part in our Walk around the World event and many other celebrations of World Labyrinth Day. It was an unexpected idea that came only two weeks before World Labyrinth Day. It was in the end, despite the hiccups and difficulties, a truly wonderful event. It was meaningful and moving to come together as a worldwide labyrinth community and share this time.

Walk around the World was a bit of an experiment, with all of us--organizers, volunteers, and participants--navigating so many new things at once. There were multiple audio issues, live mic gaffes, family member cameos, and technical issues scattered throughout the 24 hours. It's difficult to say exactly how many participated in this event (1000+), and the response was so much more than anticipated when we first discussed the possibility. Despite all of these snafus, the overall sentiment is that we came together across time zones in profoundly connecting and moving ways.

Presenters and participants were from across the globe, including Australia, Austria, Canada, Chile, Ecuador, Germany, Ireland, Italy, Lietuva (Lithuania), the Netherlands, New Zealand, Poland, Portugal, Rwanda, South Africa, Ukraine, the United Kingdom, and the United States.

This event has shown us what is possible and inspired many lines of thought regarding future opportunities to connect, learn, share, and gather. We are looking closely at what went well and what could be improved, exploring technologies, and considering event formats.

The committee is discussing details concerning Walk around the World videos. We need to consider several aspects and process the videos to address technical and privacy considerations.

We would love to hear more about your experience, whether by sharing in the Global Group, emailing wld@labyrinthsociety.org, or completing a follow-up survey coming soon. TLS is so grateful for the outpouring of support and donations from its volunteers, members, and the global labyrinth community. Labyrinths connect us and, despite the necessity of canceling the in-person Gathering this fall, TLS promises to strengthen and deepen this connection in the coming months. Thank you, stay safe and well, and blessings to all.
