Biography
Katja has been captivated by labyrinths since the late 1990’s when she first walked a canvas Chartres labyrinth at a weekend retreat in northern Wisconsin. This event piqued her curiosity for all things labyrinth and sacred-space related and she quickly integrated this with her undergraduate studies in interior design at that time. Her degree culminated with a senior research thesis on the labyrinth as a space for transformative experiences. Labyrinths remained at the center of her academic and creative work through graduate school and beyond into her professional career. Katja holds an MFA in Design Studies (emphasis: environmental installations) from UW – Madison and is a professor and program Chair of Interior Architecture at the University of Wisconsin-Stevens Point. She has been a member of The Labyrinth Society since 2004 and has served on the TLS Board of Directors in several positions. Currently she serves as Treasurer for The Labyrinth Society.
Her creative work includes custom environmental design services, specializing in labyrinth design and installation. Katja is a Veriditas-trained Labyrinth Facilitator and is trained at the Reiki Master level. She loves all things outdoors and especially enjoys gardening, paddling, biking, lifting weights, DIYing and spending time with her family. She also finds delight in random dance parties, foraging, and playing with legos.
