Partly inspired by a presentation at a former TLS Gathering, ‘Labyrinth Around America’ began as an initiative to take a single, canvas labyrinth on a journey through all of the USA border-states. In spite of seeming like a crazy idea that flew in the face of any ‘normal’ common sense and practicalities like time and budget, it became an adventure that ‘felt’ right to embark upon and has continued to be driven largely by intuition rather than logic.
Unsurprisingly, perhaps, the labyrinth has revealed an extended purpose, beyond the idea of connecting communities and introducing new folk to the labyrinth along the way, which Clive believed was the original intent and purpose.
In a one-hour presentation about this remarkable journey, illustrated with many stories and images, Clive will reflect on the surprises that unfolded as he stewarded the labyrinth along its Ariadne's thread. In particular, he will provide examples of how it has progressively revealed itself to have a far greater impact and intention than he ever imagined.
Supported as a TLS Special Project, ‘Labyrinth Around America’ has already covered more than 5,000 miles over land and has been walked by thousands of people and in countless places – from kindergartens and elementary schools to prisons and art galleries, remote forest glens and windy parking lots to city centers and the heart of The National Mall in Washington, DC. All who have – and will – walk it add to, and may take something from, the labyrinth’s many gifts.
