A metaphor for writing is the vine and pruning. The author also refers to the various pictures of labyrinths as a way of guiding thought processes. This has provided a meaningful structure to writing while enabling the capture and illustration of key ideas through visual images. The physical labyrinth and the experience of the walk become a means for the author to reflect on her own journey in writing, and a guide for others concerned with academic writing, accompanying other metaphors for the process of reflection, research and writing.
