The Labyrinth Society's DVD Project

During our 10th annual gathering in November 2008, we experienced 5 transformational days of filming for the DVD project (formerly "Video Project". TLS member Kim Becker, her colleagues, Bill Sisca, Rich Lerner and their film crew joined our annual event ready to capture valuable footage.

With the help of many members, that goal was accomplished - we have nearly 30 hours of film in the can! To ensure higher quality and 'future-proof' the finished product, all 30 hours were shot in High Definition Format. Making this kind of decision was not anticipated when we initiated the "Video Project" years ago, yet it assures TLS a greater return on investment and increased technical viability of the finished product.

The resulting interviews with labyrinth enthusiasts from all over the world show a range of experience spanning from experts to lay people to first-time members. The essence of experience, passion, expertise, and heart-felt desire to see labyrinths propagated across the globe is now chronicled on film.

To capture those interviews meant introducing a professional film crew into the schedule of workshops and events. This posed many interesting challenges. Yet, there was flexibility among all present that helped tremendously. The DVD Committee would like to extend a note of deep gratitude to everyone for graciously navigating any interruptions or restrictions which hosting a film crew placed on retreat and connection time.

The footage we now have in hand will serve to make TLS media response-able in a technological age where that viability is essential. And the DVD that is being created from this film will serve as a tool for TLS members to continue to make a brilliant stand for labyrinths world wide.

As we progress toward our goal of completion, we are deep into post-production and excited to see the project unfolding. At this point, the DVD committee has viewed the initial rough cut and made suggestions that will produce a second rough cut. Beyond that, there will most likely be a few more rough cuts before we reach a final version.

As with any large undertaking, there have been unexpected challenges. The members of our committee sometimes find themselves walking an interesting path, aiming to find a comfortable balance among many variables. It is definitely an education unto itself and has consumed many hundreds of volunteer hours thus far.

The DVD committee continues to welcome financial contributions to meet expanded production costs. We look forward to the point when we can share the finished product with our membership and will keep you updated on progress through this page of the web site and the member e-newsletter.
