Sites Without Sight: A Journey of Creating a Tactile Labyrinth Collection for the Blind

Though many finger labyrinths are tactile, the average blind person hasn’t walked one unless they know someone who knows labyrinths. This in mind, I set out to create a book or collection of tactile labyrinth patterns along with basic historic and design features readily accessible to blind Seekers who are ready to “geek out” on labyrinthine lore with the best of us.

Check out proposal content that reminded me how universal, intergenerational, and accessible labyrinths can be and how many places across the board where they can quietly do their work.

Handle samples and prototypes from different stages, including a variety of materials currently used to create tactile graphics for the blind. Hear how the machines work to create these raised designs. Walk some different labyrinths yourself and “See” what you think.

Check out participant responses from test runs with both sighted and blind labyrinth walkers.

Explore some ways these labyrinths can be used in a variety of settings.
