The focus of this 60-90-minute (committee’s choice) presentation is to honor the meditative nature of the labyrinth walk. First, there is an examination of research findings about: 1. Design features common to labyrinths and nature; 2. The accompanying physiological responses (heart rate variability/HRV, cardiopulmonary system/CPS function and autonomic nervous system/ANS function with paced breathing) and 3. The value of coherent breathing practices for meditation and labyrinth. Secondly, Participants will learn of multiple research-informed practices that can be used on a labyrinth walk.
A PowerPoint lecture with DVD/CD and a labyrinth walk are provided. Participants are introduced to the concepts of biofeedback/BF and occupational therapy/OT. Emphasis will be placed on the processes of down-regulating sympathetic nervous system/SNS and up-regulating parasympathetic nervous system/PNS. Electronic media-based training options will be discussed.
