News from your TLS Board of Directors

In 2013 The Labyrinth Society (TLS) will celebrate its 15th birthday!  TLS was officially organized in 1998 with a very broad mission: “to support all those who create, maintain and use labyrinths, and to serve the global community by providing education, networking and opportunities to experience transformation.”  The World Labyrinth Landscape has changed considerably since 1998. How has it changed? TLS President John Rhodes would like to invite you to reflect on your view of how the World Labyrinth Landscape has changed in the past 15 years and the implications these changes have for TLS. If you would like to share your reflections with John, please e-mail the president.

Your Board of Directors has been busy. At its December “telephone chat,” the Board adopted an ambitious budget for 2013. We rely primarily on your membership dues, donations, and attendance at the Gathering to fund this budget. Additionally, the Board is experimenting with alternate ways of holding its meetings. Instead of its usual “telephone chat,” in January the Board met online using a trial version of the GoToMeeting software. It was fun being able to see each other and share documents, in addition to hearing each other. We think video conferencing software  holds promise for future Board meetings as well as committee meetings.

The current TLS Strategic Plan was adopted at the Gathering in Atlanta, GA, in 2008, on our 10th birthday.  Since that time it has guided our vision as well as our work.  Most of the objectives projected in this 2008 Strategic Plan have been attained. In 2013 your Board again will engage in a strategic planning process intended to update the current broad strategic directions as well as plan how TLS will respond to the changes in the World Labyrinth Landscape as we go forward. You’ll be hearing more about this as it evolves!
