If Only I Had a Heart

There are many lessons packed into one amazing American iconic story, the Wizard of Oz. In keeping with this year’s theme: A Journey to the Heart, this workshop, If Only I had a Heart, will explore lessons from the Tin Man. The Tin Man in the Wizard of OZ is stiff, sad, and immobilized by the personal events in his life. His missing heart has left him feeling lifeless and empty.  When Dorothy and the Scarecrow invite him to accompany them on the Yellow Brick Road, he willingly joins. It is in this journey that he finds his heart. Come experience creative exercises, a finger labyrinth exercise, and guided imagery to find your way out of your sadness and into a place of joy and connection.

A short PowerPoint presentation will highlight helpful keys to personal growth while most time will be spent exploring creative ways to open your shut-down heart and re-enter the path.

The participant will learn:

  • sadness is a neglected emotion and you must embrace sadness to heal.
  • the root of shame keeps you immobilized.
  • how to connect to disowned parts of yourself.

Through those lessons, the Tin Man discovers that building a community of friends is essential to moving forward in life and that healing is an inside and outside job.
